Engine Test Engineer



Our Client is a world leader in the development and manufacture of diesel engines and has global responsibility for developing technology to support future product needs.



Manufacturing Engineering (Assembly, Test & Finish) provides the framework for making critical business decisions that affect how the products are made. The manufacturing engineering team defines and deploys the physical assets (machine tooling, equipment, etc.) into world-class production lines for manufacturing engine products. Being an innovative and technologically aware department enables continuous improvements to be made to existing production processes ensuring advances are made in all areas of People, Quality, Velocity and Cost.



Working within Manufacturing Engineering, this position will design and develop Cold & Hot Test Processes & Equipment. The foundation of these new processes will be focused on preventing the 8 wastes of the Production System [unused creativity, defects, waiting, excess motion, transportation, over processing, inventory and over production].



The Role:



Daily responsibilities will include production documentation, layouts, tooling and equipment procurement and installation and continuous improvement



Supporting analysis and actions for facilities performing hot engine tests on a daily basis



Leadership & Continuous Improvement expertise for Cold Test & Automated Hot Test equipment



Specific Projects & challenges facing PEC Site Wide Cold & Hot Test:

People / Safety:

Setting World Class standards for safety for engine test equipment

Introducing new safe systems of work, maintaining and monitoring those in place

Sharing recommendations with Global Facilities



Quality:

Quality & Capability improvements

Introduction of bespoke customer test requirements and equipment

Std Work creation for Tier 4

Test facility, rigging & de-rigging validation, improvement and alignment

Product failure analysis and process improvements to improve OEE

PFMEA & MQ process adherence



Velocity / Cost:

Ensuring test cycles are the most effective use of production time.

PSEL efficiency & single shift capacity

ACT improvements for efficiency increases



Requirements:



Engineering or Technical Bachelor Degree



Previous experience of engine testing (Hot or Cold)



Have a proven background in a Manufacturing/Process orientated environment with exposure to high volume automation, robotic applications/programming or PLC development Experience of World Class Manufacturing Facility Practices and real world application Proven Design for Assembly (DFA) and Design for Manufacturing experience (DFM)



Ability to develop manufacturing or assembly processes and have a working knowledge of CAD with the ability to produce plant layouts & schemes



Experience with process failure mode and effects analysis (PFMEA) and control plans



Good organisation and communication skills and the ability to plan, structure and lead cross-functional teams in a project environment



Be skilled in influencing at all levels within a business to effect change and be tenacious in meeting time-bound objectives



Self motivated with an analytical ability and have a proven team working skills



Possess advanced computing skills and be competent in the use of MS Excel, MS Word, MS Project, and E-mail (Lotus Notes
