Manufacturing Engineer
Our Client is a world leader in the development and manufacture of diesel engines and has global responsibility for developing technology to support future product needs.
The Manufacturing CPPD Engineer is expected to develop a strong partnership with the CPPD Team Leader, core team members and CPPD subject matter experts. In this role, you will be Manufacturing/ Assembly Process expert within the CPPD team.
This position will be responsible for seeking improvements to both product and process by coordinating all the functions concerned with NPI, providing direct communication along with the required documentation for all releases/changes to the evolving product and process.
The Role:
Constantly review new product & process designs during the development cycle and provide feedback to other core team members
Set the tone for teamwork and collaboration both within the CPPD community and specifically within own area of expertise
Solicit CPPD team knowledge to reach consensus about issues or concerns that affect Manufacturing or Operations
Provide a route by which the Manufacturing Process Engineers can communicate needs and concerns back to the design teams
Capture issues and actions and record within the formalised feedback mechanism for resolution
Build and maintain effective working relationships with all CPPD teams, influencing product design in line with Design for Assembly criteria and CPS guiding principles
Continuously maintain a high level of product & process knowledge
Contribute to PFMEAs and return product issues to the appropriate CPPD teams for action
Maintain knowledge of risks identified to assist with product & process design
Actively support the successful introduction of the product into series production
Requirements:
Experience of or exposure to the Manufacturing & Operations environment ideally within Automotive/ Aerospace Assembly series production. The role is extremely varied and requires having a broad knowledge of Manufacturing (Assembly, Hot Test and Automotive Paint Processes) and Product Engineering (Diesel Engine Design)
Possess advanced computing skills and competent in the use of MS Excel, MS Word, MS Project, E-mail (Lotus Notes), & other corporate based systems, specifically: Teamcenter Engineering/ Manufacturing; VisMockup; QAD Manufacturing Pro and PTC Pro/Engineer
Good understanding of Product Life Cycle Management concepts and their application
High analytical skills and problem solving mentality, having a hands on approach to problem solving within a technical environment
Possess interpersonal, professional communication, teamwork and leadership skills
Be energetic, dynamic, flexible and constantly positively challenge
Be highly customer focused
An in-depth understanding of products and underlying technologies
Ability to visualise how new designs will be configured, assembled, tested and finished within the factory efficiently, productively and to the highest quality standards
Possess an ability to work independently
Be skilled in influencing at all levels within the business
Actively participate in the NPI program planning and monitoring process assuming responsibility for key deliverables at all milestones as required
Apply solid understanding of quality control and manufacturing concepts
Have applied 6 Sigma tools or lean principles within a Manufacturing environment
Degree in a Technical subject and have a minimum of 3-5 years relevant experience
A good understanding of Engineering fundamentals
A good understanding of design and manufacturing processes
An ability to think both critically and creatively, independently and co-operatively
